My name is Christopher Brown. I recently completed a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Adler University and hold a Master’s in Public Health from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden.
I draw heavily from Mindfulness-Based approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. By using mindfulness-based skills to become more aware and present with our reality and the world around us, I believe that individuals naturally begin to grow and achieve greater wellness in their lives.
One of my areas of specialization includes working with men, especially men who have been trauma survivors. Through the process of building an authentic and trusting relationship in therapy, I have experience supporting men in beginning to explore the ways in which past trauma is affecting them in the present. Sometimes this also includes going back and gradually exploring these past events in a safe way. I also work with couples to help them improve communication and intimacy, and navigate alternative relationship structures.
Approach
In addition to working from a mindfulness-based perspective, I utilize an integrative model named Components Based Psychotherapy. In addition to emphasizing the importance of the relationship in therapy, CBP emphasizes supporting individuals in managing their emotions in a safe way, retelling our own stories, and engaging with parts of ourselves that are unfamiliar. I have found this approach to be helpful in supporting individuals from many different walks of life.
I am also interested in human potential and the possibility for psychotherapy not only to help us when we are feeling stuck, but also to support growth and achieve new potential in our lives. By gaining new perspectives and mending past hurts, therapy can help us live more fulfilling lives, even when things are already going well.
