Helping to Empower Health & Well-Being

Counselling in Vancouver & Montreal

It is human to struggle

Our therapists help clients navigate emotions and behaviors, providing objective perspectives and guiding them to accept themselves and build a pathway towards better health and well-being. We are not always able to control what life throws our way, but with help we can transform these experiences into personal growth, wisdom, and a deeper understanding of what we need to thrive.

What to Expect

Therapy is a safe, non-judgmental relationship where you can explore distressing factors and identify your needs, ultimately improving your well-being. In our sessions, you'll feel secure and understood as we delve into painful thoughts and experiences.

The first session is a comprehensive assessment to understand your background and goals, ensuring a good fit for our therapeutic journey. Subsequent sessions may involve structured techniques for acute mental health issues or long-term exploration of relationship patterns and behaviors. Weekly sessions over 8 to 10 weeks help build a strong therapeutic relationship and allow focused exploration, with the option to adjust frequency as needed. Between sessions, you may reflect on themes discussed and engage in homework to support your progress.

Approaches We Use

Mindfulness

Mindfulness practice is an important first step to therapy because it allows you to turn your attention inwards and understand oneself. Mindfulness fosters presence and initiates transformation. However, when it's challenging to be present with oneself, it may indicate a lack of internal or external safety. With a trained therapist, mindfulness practice can create a safe space to explore and address personal needs.

Self-Compassion

Resilience's counseling services prioritize the cultivation of self-compassion during challenging times, guiding individuals to extend the same kindness and understanding to themselves as they would to their loved ones. Research suggests that self-compassion is more effective than self-esteem in navigating relationships and life challenges, leading to lasting changes in our self-perception.

EFT

Emotion-focused therapy recognizes how attachment patterns influence our moods and interpersonal interactions, revealing that emotions signal underlying needs. This helps us choose more effective communication strategies to meet these needs. EFT is especially effective for couples and families, because it promotes self-compassion and empathy during challenging moments.

DBT

When life is too overwhelming, our therapists can share Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills to combine mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This helps us be less reactive, more present and have healthy relationships – even in times of high stress and life transition.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy is a respectful, non-blaming approach to counselling that allows you to be the expert on your own life. This collaborative approach allows you to explore the stories that have shaped your life, and help you access the power to make choices based on your inherent values, skills, beliefs and commitments.
