Jennifer Parlee, Doctoral Student

Supervised by Dr. Rami Nijjar

I am a Doctoral student completing my degree in clinical psychology at Adler University. I aim to use a kind, compassionate, and curious approach to help you overcome any stresses, conflicts, and difficulties you are experiencing in your life.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at York University in Toronto.  While there, I studied how understanding our own emotions and those of others affects how we interact with our communities.  Since graduating, I have had the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life in a variety of settings.

At the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health I assisted people struggling with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety, and trauma with their daily lives while in hospital.  Most recently, I conducted assessments to help people on parole successfully manage obstacles in their return to the community.  Currently, I am developing expertise in low sexual desire, desire descrepancy in couples, and the treatment of vulvodynia, a pain condition that interferes with sexual intercourse in women.

Approach

I use a variety of approaches to help identify and address the areas you are struggling with.  I am particularly interested in how our past and present relationships, attachments patterns, and experiences affect our emotional lives and ability to be connected to one another.  I am very collaborative, and welcome your feedback and ideas to find the approach that best works for you.  Together, we will work with your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and values to help you live a meaningful and fulfilling life.
